Cabot
12/8/2018
Bunnell Notch Trail, York Pond Trail, Kilkenny Ridge Trail
9.6 miles round-trip
2,400 feet of elevation gain
We hiked Cabot on a really cold day (yesterday). It was -8 degrees at the trailhead. We had a great time hiking with Nick and Elle (and their parental units, Carl and Amy). These kids are impressive; they only have two more hikes to complete before they finish their round of New Hampshire’s Four Thousand Footers.
As soon as I stepped out of the car, I felt the rush that frigid air brings to one's head. My nose immediately felt stiff. My spirits heightened when I met the lively group of Ella, Nick, Amy, and Carl.
The sun rose and the day brightened, slowly but surely.
Sage and I soon transitioned from wearing Microspikes to wearing snowshoes. Snowshoes make my feet cramp, but they are quite helpful for packing out deep-ish snow.
We all focused on ascending the peak. Time seemed to fly on this hike...here is a picture of the scenery from the viewpoint. It was gorgeous!
The ends of my hair have faded to a subtle green color. Snow coated the very top layer of my hair that day, also.
Looking up...
Inside the Cabot Cabin:
After grabbing a swig of liquid, we headed up to the official summit of Mount Cabot.
Summit selfie with Sage!

My fingers and toes were freezing off on the way down from the summit!
All in all, we had a great time hiking Cabot with Ella, Nick, Amy, and Carl.

Starr King Trail
7.2 miles round-trip
2,650 feet of elevation gain
For the first time since August, I hiked with Mom and did not solo hike. This time, Sage went ahead and Mom and I hiked around 15 minutes behind her. The sun had risen when we began our ascent.
The fall colors were vivid...
Mom!
There were lovely views from Starr King:
When we arrived at the viewpoint just past the summit of Waumbek, Sage was there eating. So, we shared the viewpoint with her and then waited to give her a fifteen-minute head start for the descent.
The light shone through the trees and accentuated the beautiful green, orange, and yellow fall colors.
I had a nice time on our hike!

York Pond Trail, Bunnell Notch Trail, Kilkenny Ridge Trail
2,400 feet of elevation gain
9.6 miles round-trip
I solo hiked Cabot on Saturday, and I had a great time! It was chilly and the leaves were turning; I could feel that fall had arrived.
There I went...
A lovely little bridge:
Feeling good...
Fresh morning sky:
Going up...
Some beautiful leaves turned red and orange:
The intersection with Kilkenny Ridge Trail:
The trail was bespeckled with colorful fall leaves.
I took a few pictures at the viewpoint on the way up to Mt. Cabot:
After that brief stop, I continued...
I was excited to arrive at Cabot Cabin.
I hiked past the cabin for a couple tenths of a mile to tag the summit of Cabot.
After that, I went back to the cabin and had a snack. I heard mice crawling and squeaking above me in the ceiling the whole time, which was a little unsettling but also amusing.
Heading down, looking up...
The leaves cast many intricate shadows on the ground.
The ascent of Cabot is enjoyable; the trail is lovely!
